  • finally got out to my camp

spent a couple days this week at my camp,
    havent been there all summer,
when i first got there found my canvas tent collapsed soaked and moldy,
so had to re-set it up let it dry out and next trip out bring some mold control stuff,
ended up sleeping under a tarp,
it rained all night and 1 day but stayed dried and managed to keep my fire going most of the night,
temp was about 50 windy and raining at night, was tolerable sleeping in my clothes using sleeping bag over me as a blanket,
as temps get colder do have to work on heat source in the tent,
if i use the kodiak canvas tent have to work around its rubber flooring,
maybe stone platform to place firebox on,
or making somekind of tarp/tent shelter without a floor,

found my canvas tent collapsed soaked and moldy,
Arghh. That probably wasn't what you were hoping to find! Pitching a wet collapsed Kodiak is probably a pretty good workout.

What caused it to collapse? Did something break?

When i set it up was april/may with about 3 feet if snow on the ground
Snow on ground is only way i could get it through my swamp to the site
Tried to clear as much snow as possible to set it up
          Wasnt most secure anchoring
So probably combination bad anchoring poor ground
          Wind rain and time
I didnt plan on going so long before returning to secure it better but things happen

I would think it would be hard for ANY tent to stand for that long, through those weather changes, without adjusting guylines or restaking. A big dome tent would probably still be standing, but UV would have killed the fabric with constant exposure.

Those are nice shots of your campsite and surroundings, thanks!

                  I have 48 acres
I do have a house on it that i rent out
So as a camp i use 8 acres thats seperated from the main 40 acres
The 8 acre lot also borders state forest
