  • Aluminum-Fiberglass poles and lightening?

Ok I have a 2 person tent a Kelty Grand Mesa 2. I kayak camp only. I mostly kayak camp in Canada Georgian Bay islands. 2 months ago I was in a pretty nasty lightening storm.
I was wondering if the aluminum poles of my tent would attract lightening more than if my tent had fiberglass tent poles? Iam thinking metal poles would but is it significant at all?

Im posted a question about a few hours ago but it never showed up, lets see if this one does.

Takes a while for posts to show until you get past the minimum. Fiber poles usually have metal ferrules don't they? You could get a single pole tent that could use a wooden pole cut at the site or just suspend from a tree. I would not worry about it.

Aluminum poles are extremely resistant, but are heavier than fiberglass ones. This material it`s no longer used nowadays, being replaced by those of Duralumin. Duralumin is a little harder than fiberglass and more expensive.
