  • I had this happen to me!! Elk crossings

Just about a week ago this was almost identical to what I ran into. So cool and amazing part of nature to see them in such large numbers.

Last year while on a Jeep trip in Colorado, we saw a smaller group of Elk on the move. We were way up in the mountains and had stopped for lunch. We heard them before we saw them. It was a beautiful site and one of the reasons I like to travel.

I used to live in the mountains of Colorado for years. My house was in a "valley" at 8,000 feet. There was a gigantic meadow of what is called power grass that ran the length of the valley, several miles. Twice each year the elk herds would migrate through. It was not uncommon to wake up and have 50 elk laying all over the front yard. When we would drive into town (about 10 miles away) several times the herd would be crossing the road and just surround the car. My children loved opening the windows a bit and the cows would stick their noses inside. Yes, lots of elk snot to clean up, but it was great.
