  • See youse when I get back ...assuming I leave...

Should have left Tuesday but but welllll if something wackadoodle can happen I'm your grrl.

Per the man I changed the car reservation so we could pack the car late Monday night with less resident traffic on the elevator; more of the doorman's attention( and strong arms) and noooooooo alternate side of the street parking regulations.

However he choose to sleep until 8:00 AM Tuesday instead.
And then realising his faux pax decided to make it "my fault".
I nevah know why anyone wants to bother me when I'm right and you were born wrong:diablo:.
    So.
Long story short I'm still here.

On the bright side we took advantage of a "Gee the car is already dressed up with no where to go" day and stopped at a Yonkers (about 25 miles outside of NYC) supermarket named Stew Leonard's that has a petting zoo for the kiddos, great prices and quality food stuff at lower than normal prices and is near my sister's in Westchester where I borrowed a fire poker since our's was lost last year in the great "Will a Barbie bike fit in the car?" fiasco; course it will if ya leave a bag of firepit and grill equipment in front of the building...yeahhhhhhh I'm digressing altho some how the song remains the same. Oh right but speaking of bikes also picked up the folding bikes from REI; it's pretty much settled: The Novaro is mine and he gets the Tern.

Air kissed and made up(I forget sooooooo little and have a hard time suppressing my inner elephant:tussor.
    Supposedly we leave tomorrow morn.
    2017:

July 3 to July 16- annual kiddo trip
Aug 2 to Aug 14- adult trip to recover from kiddos' outing. Bring on the Campari!

      Hey grrl,

Hope your drive went smoothly and your weather is dry for the next couple of days. I'm heading up early early Friday morn to Bethel for my CNS concert Saturday evening. Hopefully this tropical storm heads out east by then because I hate pitching a tent and setting up camp in the rain. Weekend should be pleasant and we'll just have to deal with the traffic heading back to the city on Sunday.

Enjoy the time away from the concrete jungle, speak to ya when we get back.

It makes for a much better trip when all the mishaps happen BEFORE you leave.

          Have fun.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, all:D.
Dinna leave until around noon yesterday and amazingly made it to the campground by 3:00 with a quick pitstop at SuperDuper Weenie's for the starving amongst us. Was surprised by the lack of traffic jams AND RVs. Set up the sleeping tent and made it to the all important package store fer freezingly cold libations ( AKA beer) before the rain started. Kiddos went to the beach w/ campground friends' family since they weren't remotely interested in setup. Survived last night's deluge and back in NYC to drop off the mini van, pick up the sedan, grill my mother as to why she dinna answer the phone; re set the phone settings so they all ring and she can hear it; reiterate to the building staff that my mother is home alone(she's staying in my house to parrot sit) and was told that her doorman (he's a union rep) had all ready called my building to tell them the same thing, LOL. Must be good to be royalty.

Wandering around the apt until 10:00 AM when the Mazda 3 is ready picking up stray things that were forgotten. Think I can't do w/o a bottle of Campari.....

Have a beauteous 4th of July and more, everyone! Muahhhhhhhhh.

Dog-bird wants to know why the parrot is not camping with you???

Dog-bird is a 31+ year old Mexican Red-Headed Amazon that I adopted last year with his 28 year old Severe Macaw sister. She passed away last August. He now goes camping with his flock (Moose-dog and Bat-dog) in the motorhome. He loves to look out his windows - his camping cage is set up to see out all 4 directions. When we go to rallies, we bring his cage outside to visit with all the clipper club folks.

His previous owner was a very nice 80 year old woman, but he was pretty much a cage bird overshadowed by his sister (the owner couldn't handle him at all). It's been really great to watch him turn from an overweight, sedentary, arthritic old man bird into a camping, mobile, slim and trim bird (he also gets out of his home cage for exercise).

Dog bird? Howwwwwww apropos. They do like to bark don't they? I once lived in an apartment in Brooklyn where my landlady lived below me. She had a strict no pet rule but said fine for the bird. One day shortly after we moved in she banged on my door and demanded the forbidden dog leave; I introduced her to Soul, the yellow headed Amazon, who formerly lived next to the kennel section of a pet shop. Made her laugh. A little.

Oh and I currently have neighbours who want to know why I never bring my cries a lot toddler (yanno the opening sequence of PBS' Mystery where the woman is screaming on the edge of the roof?http://youtu.be/rAmGsM4Dids?t=26s

He imitates her perfectly) or doggie outside. It's a world.

My monster has been a part of my life since I was a tweener and originally was a gift to my mother. She found it difficult to keep up with him and reluctantly passed him to me back in the '80's. He's travelled the world with me (never the UK though) but drew a line in the sand at tent camping:neutral:. I do hope he enjoys RV travelling but if not his original mother is still around and he seems to have forgiven her abandonment. Oh and my DGD recently asked if she can have him when I die. I did ask her whyyy I had to die but dinna get a response.......

Re: See youse when I get back ...assuming I leave...

Dog-bird is his screen name. Every day, he calls to his flock of dogs and they call back (in a manner that would make a caravan of ambulances sound like a whisper).

Soul sounds like a very nice boy. I suspect if he's been around the world, that he'll be a great RVer. Dog-bird has one bit of advice for Soul: make sure your mama sets you up where you can see everything that's going on - both while you're driving and while you're camping.

That was Dog-bird's biggest issue. When I'm driving, his carrier is on the passenger seat sideways so he can see me and out the driver's side window. He beaked out his own extra window on one side so he can see the dogs in the back of the RV. Then, when we're camped, his RV cage is set up on the dinette so he can see out all the windows plus he can see me and the dogs when we're up in the top bunk at night.

Re: See youse when I get back ...assuming I leave...

I always leave the TV or radio on for Soul when I leave the house so assuring he has a good window seat makes perfect sense and will avoid that look of "What fresh Hell is this?" he gives me at times.

Well guess it's time for my long trip report.

In a nutshell more consistent rain and wind than I've ever encountered on a New England summer trip. Prolly rained or threatened to 50% of a 16 day trip. Much giggling about printing up t-shirts that say " I survived Hurricane Arthur" but in truth we merely dealt with the "tendrils". I found the wind more frightening than the rain (20mph on the 4th) but my tent and many others held up nicely. In our loop, only 2 tents had "here today, gone tomorrow" moments: one tent collapsed under the weight of a homemade rain fly and the other one just blew by me as the owners had neither staked or guylined it before leaving for parts unknown. That was kinda funny cuz I'd noooo idea what site it had come from and thus set it under a roof light of the restroom sure that it's owners would see it eventually. Lotta slowwwwwwww drive and walk bys as others tried to figure out why anyone would set up a tent so close to the bathroom:he:. Went to bed around 11:00PM and no one had claimed it yet. Woke up at 5:30 AM and it was gone.

Despite the weather we had a lot of fun: blueberry picking, mornings at the beach, bike riding on the new nature trail, a series of art classes for young uns at a museum specialising in impressionistic art; visiting the Dinosaur State Park, and just taking day hikes thru any state or county land the mood hit us to walk. Oh right and a visit to a town carnival to raise money for the local fire dept. It's official for me now- I can live the rest of my life not getting on one more amusement ride. Not necessarily your average camping trip but fine by me.

I'll put some pics up when I've finished uploading em to my 'puter.
