  • Central California Camping in Fall/Winter?

    Hi All,

Any suggestions on where to camp in Central Cali where it is still reasonably warm? I'm talking low 30's in the evening? I do a lot of camping in Tahoe Forest, but it gets pretty cold around there by November!

Dispersed, or campsites reserved, I don't care. Thanks!

Big Sur during the autumn is a wondrous place to camp. Hiking the trails in and out of the fog and up and down the hills emgring through all the contrasting micro-ecosystems. These campgrounds are highly recommended:

      Fernwood Resort: http://www.fernwoodbigsur.com/
      Julia Pfeiffer Burns SP: http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=578

      Enjoy!

How about going a little further south on the coast to San Luis Obisipo or Avilla Beach? Both the fall and winter are mild.

One of my favorite places in Central California is Pinnacles National Park. You would not want to visit here in the summer as it's hot. The fall, winter, and spring are nice and mild.

Butano for sure. Mostly tents, but small trailers can get in.

Anywhere near Santa Cruz! Amazing campgrounds and right on the water. Nothing beats falling asleep to the sound of an ocean. If anything I would hammock it if there are no regulations against that!

What campground do you suggest at Santa Cruz? I really enjoy falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing on the beach.

Mind you, I was there going to US Santa Cruz for two years, so most college days get hazy. But The one I loved and cant wait to get back to was KAO, but if you are looking for a place that is not too touristy, I was go a bit more south to Monterey, and camp at Veterans Memorial Park.
