Made this "Eisenhower style Porterhouse steak" last summer cooked directly on hot coals in the fire pit whilst the veggie sides sauteed in a pan over a grill that occupied the edge of the fire:

An ad hoc meal on our last camping morning in 2015: grilled lamb steak chops w/ pomegranate molasses, scallop stuffing jumbo shrimp, watermelon slices, and bottled grapefruit slices and fresh mango slices in a wine glass. Think we started with sliced tomatoes and herbs. I wuvvvvvv where leftovers take us to!:

I have a collection of "on the stove" cast iron waffle irons. All of them were found at flea markets and estate sales. If using a coleman style stove the high bases make the best waffles. Because of the small burner sizes of portable stoves, the low bases require you move the iron around for even cooking. Not that big of a deal, but if both bases were available I'd get the high base.

                For over the fire. http://www.amazon.com/Romes-1028-Chu...EQ137RNTRDQ3CS

If you love syrup and want a treat, try this https://www.bespokepost.com/store/no...le-syrup-450ml

                Expensive, but really good.

A "lifetime away"(back in the 80's) I found a round CI waffle iron with a handle much like yours, bluestar. It had a..reversible hinge that didn't come apart and held place of pride for many years on my kitchen wall. Sorry to say I never used it.

Recently, I bought a stovetop waffle maker from Nordicware which I find is a great multipurpose tool. This is the one I bought:

Not only does it make great waffles but it makes fantastic hash browns (recipe to follow) and tons of other ideas I haven't tried yet like these:

and here is the hash brown recipe I made that were gobbled up. I'll be using it this summer to make with corned beef hash:

Oh and NOT sure if I'm gonna thank you for forcing me to order the bourbon maple syrup; I've been so good of late:angel:

I have an older version of that Nordic waffle iron. The only real difference is it has a thermometer on each side to tell you when to turn it over. I still use my cast iron ones in the house as well as when we camp. I have made chocolate waffles with strawberries and whip cream and a friend did cinnamon rolls on his. It worked out well. I even have tried left over stuffing after thanksgiving. I added an egg for binding and they were very good. I have not tried hash browns yet.

You will not be disappointed with the Nobel Syrup. That stuff is real good, with a mild bourbon flavor. YUMM YUMM.
