I just got back from my backpacking trip from where the Appalation Trail crosses State Road 603 to Damascus, VA. This was a 37 mile trip over all starting on the AT, to the Pine Mountain Trail, stopping at the Thomas Knob shelter to set up camp for the night. Day one was around 10 miles. On day two, we followed the AT, 14+ miles to the Lost Mountain Shelter...and the whole day was mostly in fog and rain. On day three, we took the AT to the Virginia Creeper trail to Taylors Valley, where we stopped for lunch at a small local eatery. THe BBQ was AWESOME! (especialy after three days on the trail). We found a good camp site close to highway 58, about 4 miles out of Damascus. Green Cove Creek provided a good location to wash-up, fish and play around...the water...IT WAS REALLY COLD...but it felt very good on the feet. On day four, we walked the last four miles to "Trail Town USA" AKA Damascus, Virginia. Here are some pictures of our journey...enjoy!

Great pictures! Thank you for sharing. Too bad we weren't in Damascus on the same weekend. Lovely little town, and I can't wait to return next year.
That rocky bit must have been rough on the feet and ankles. What shoes did you use for the trip?
