Re: Calling all aluminum foil cooking recipies

We make pizzas! You can just buy the premade shells (we use the individual ones), place them on a piece of foil, top, and then make it into a packet with the foil. Just grill like that. The bottom gets crispy and the foil keeps in the heat melting the cheese. So good.

Ended up pulling a move my Dad did when we were kids, ended up flipping them with a machete (only had one spatula) and it worked out well!
We also take the bisquick shake-up pancake mix---no mess. But flipping them with a machete...that would be something to see. I have enough trouble flipping with a spatula!

butter the pan up real nice, and make sure there are bubbles in the middle, take your time, and flip the pancake.

I ended up making a big pile of pancakes, and they came out awesome. The campfire just adds so much flavor to everything! Glad you enjoyed the photos

We do chicken breasts, white beans, chopped olives, a few sliced cherry tomatoes and some fresh herbs. Lovely Mediterranean chicken!

Re: Calling all aluminum foil cooking recipies

                A couple suggestions:

                1) chop up chicken, potatoes, green pepper, onion and corn. Then make aluminum foil pouches and spinkle a little pepper in. Then buy a bottle of italian dressing and pour some in. They cook great over a fire/on a grill and taste awesome.

                2) I do the same thing with ground beef, onions, potatoes, and corn but use a little butter instead of italian dressing.

                3) Get some asparagus and rub a little olive oil and sprikle lemon pepper on them. You can put them straight on the grill or cook in an aluminum foil made pan. They are great and cook quick!

                4) invest in a pair of hobo pie makers. You can make awesome pizzas (more like calzones) with them. Butter the outside of the bread lightly then put in your pepperoni, mozzarella, green pepper (whatever you like) and some sauce (we buy the squeeze bottle of sauce to make things easier) then close the maker and put it in the fire. They turn out awesome, just takes a little practice with all of these and some checking to make sure they are cooked right!

Re: Calling all aluminum foil cooking recipies

Enjoying reading these techniques and recipes. I can smell the fire from the 10th floor, LOL.

I will remind folks that the aluminum foil readily available now is nowhere near as strong/thick as it was when I was growing up. You have to double or triple the foil in order to use it in hobo meals today.

                    CAMPING BREAKFAST IN AN ORANGE

egg and muffin in orange on grill

                    Orange

                    Egg

                    Muffin batter

                    Ziplock bag

                    foil

One of each ingredients per person. Cut orange in half and carefully remove the meat of the orange without tearing the cup shaped peeling. Break on egg into one orange cup and fill the other with your favorite muffin batter mixed in a ziplock bag. Place each cup on its own square of double thickness foil, then bring the four corners of the foil to the top and twist securely to seal. (Be sure to leave enough room for the muffin to rise.) Set the foil enclosed cups on hot coals for 10 to 15 minutes, then enjoy a delicious breakfast of orange slices, eggs and muffins.

Nice topic. Reynolds Aluminum has tons of aluminum foil cooking suggestions and recipes that are creative and worthy. In the 1960s, they actually printed recipe books about cooking with aluminium foil. I frequently see copies of these recipe books at local thrift stores.

Here is a link to a bunch of these recipe books at Amazon.http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/s/ref=is...+with+aluminum
