  • Want to Buy a Used Trailer Tent?

    Howdy Campateers...!
When looking to get into the trailer tent scene for outdoor camping trips, you have two options: buy new or get a used one. Buying new has several advantages like a warranty and customer support. Also, the pleasure one gets when opening something for the first time is hard to beat. Why then, would you want to buy used? First, it’s significantly cheaper. There are some really good deals to be had. Second, a used tent trailer is not necessarily old. Some people just got tired of theirs and are looking to dispose of them. There are many perfectly good ones around. So, how do you get yourself a fresh trailer tent? Here are some tips:

Kicking the tires and knocking on the body panels is not enough. Check every nook and cranny since hidden places are where rust first forms. Check the structural components like the trailer itself, its undercarriage, the poles, and all moving hardware.

Check the tires for damage. No bulges, cut, or cracking. Also make sure that the tread depth is still good. You can end up paying more if you find out that you’ll need a new set of tires right away.

Since you will use your trailer tent on the road, be sure that it passes inspection. You don’t want to have your vacation cut short because you got pulled over. Get it hitched up and connected. Make sure all signal lights are working. Better yet, take it for a test drive.
Make sure all seams are good. Check the fabric too. All zippers should be working. Should you see mildew, discoloration, and/or burn marks, simply walk away.

Accessories should be complete. Some designs need special tools for assembly and teardown. Make sure these are included.

If it came with a stove, make sure that it is working. Plumbing, if included, should work flawlessly. Electrical items are crucial, have them tested by a professional. The bigger tent trailer brands have liberal warranties. If you can get one with a transferable warranty, you are in luck.

At last ask for some sort of personal warranty from the seller. This is to judge character more than anything. A person looking to pull a fast one is less likely to agree.
With these tips, you can at least ease some of the worries of having a good trailer tent to welcome next summer. Go ahead, buy with confidence and get camping!
