  • Repair Kit: Mine As Example

    Howdy,

Long distance hiking is rough on gear, and you can be guaranteed that somewhere, something is going to break. Trouble is, I can't predict when or where. Nor do I want to be hauling around a tool-shop. But a well-chosed repair kit can keep you going even when your boots delaminate, your pack frame cracks, and your stove starts coughing and spitting like an old cigarette smoker. Here's what's usually in mine.

Needles(different sizes). Threads(different weight including some I can't break with my bare hands. Wire & dental floss. Thimble. Safety pins. Duct tape(several yards wrapped around a spare pen). Glue(a urethane based glue like Shoo-goo. Tweezers. Zipper headers and sliders. Adhesive patches & rip-stop tape. Spare stuff: cordlocks, buttons, shoelaces, batteries, flashlight bulb, clevis pins. Stove parts: cleaning tools, O-rings, & instructions. Alcohol swabs(for cleaning gear before I repair it with adhesive). Hose clamps(for splinting things like tent poles and pack frames). Cigarette lighter. Pole sleeve for tent. Swiss Army knife. This will give you an idea of how to construct your own repair kit, happy backpacking. Thanks for looking.
