  • Make ice from fire

Sounds crazy? it's actually old technology, still used in RV propane powered fridges.
Back around the great depression a company manufactured a manually cycled ammonia absorption unit that was powered by a kerosene stove. No electricity needed. You had to monitor it and know when to switch it around. Crosley Icy Ball is the name and doing some web research found a few skilled welders have built their own versions. No one makes anything like this for sale that I can find, probably due to dangers if improperly heated or dealing with ammonia. Has anyone here built or used one? http://crosleyautoclub.com/IcyBall/crosley_icyball.html

Thus is cool as hell! Seems there must be applications today still yet for remote location hunters, etc.

    Thanks for the cool post.
