  • Recommendations for towing mirrors

I'm sorry if this has been posted before. I couldn't narrow any results on a thread search.
I've recently bought a 17 foot travel trailer that I"ll tow with my Nissan Frontier, and I'm looking for recommendations for attachable mirrors. I don't know the pros and cons of velcro, clip-on and other attachment methods, and would appreciate hearing your opinions.
    Thanks,

    Rich

    Re: Recommendations for towing mirrors

    Hi CT,

I received some slip over mirrors as a gift from my parents this year and will try them out. I towed last year using the stock mirrors and found them to be adequate. But that said Chevy puts some pretty large mirrors on their truck as standard equipment. None of that really helps you since I am sure you were looking for a field tested opinion. I have read several reviews and it seems to me that most people prefer the slip overs or purchasing the towing mirrors for their vehicle. I cannot see spending a few hundred dollars for towing mirrors especially since the ones I had were working okay. Slip on mirrors are rather inexpensive so we will see regarding effectiveness.

Dual-View Clip-On Towing Mirror My mom uses these on her FJ Cruiser, she loves them. Once on the mirror surfaces are adjustable, she advised they don't really shake in the wind going down the road.

Make sure your vehicle mirrors are adjusted properly and see if you still need more mirror. Most people have their mirrors set so they can see the rear fender of their vehicle. The rear fender is not going anywhere. A properly adjusted mirror should look down the lane along the vehicle without having the vehicle in the field of view. When adjusting the passenger side mirror, lean from the drivers seat to where your head is near the center of the vehicle and adjust the mirror to the point where you can just barely see the tail light. When adjusting the driver side mirror, lean your head into the window so it is just touching the glass. Move this mirror so you can just see the taillight and you should be properly adjusted. Now when you drive you can see almost all of your blind spots, and probably can see down the side of your trailer too.

I used clip ons on a 2007 Silverado. Worked pretty well. Vibrated some.
My next truck was a F-250 with electric extending mirrors. May be the best mirror on the market.

I bought slip on extendo mirrors for my 2004 HD and they have a set screw that limits the vibration. They work great.

I realize this thread is rusty, but any ideas or opinions on the camco mirrors that use a suction cup to stick on?
